About the workshop

Foundation Models hold tremendous potential for innovation and can contribute to addressing pressing societal challenges, including several pressing global challenges like education, healthcare, hunger, climate action, and more.

The workshop on Foundation Models for Social Good (FMSG) is a novel effort that is aimed at enabling NLP and ML researchers and scholars from interdisciplinary fields to think and discuss the societal implications of their work for solving humanitarian and environmental challenges. The workshop aims to advance fundamental research and engineering on foundation models focusing mainly on three primary aspects of social good: a) inclusivity, b) efficiency and c) alignment.

By fostering collaboration across academia, industry, and civil society, we seek to maximize impact in addressing challenges in public health, environment and society, accessibility, crisis response, and beyond. Through this initiative, we aim to provide a platform to stimulate discussion regarding the current state of foundation models in the diverse field of social good.
